Thyme 百里香

Thyme is a perennial herb that is available in a wide variety of colors and scents. No matter what variety, it’s still a classic Witch’s garden herb. Well known as a fabulous herb to use in all sorts of cooking, thyme is equally marvelous and versatile when it comes to incorporation it into witchery.

Thyme is a symbol of courage. During medieval times, it was common for fair ladies to embroider sprigs of thyme onto a piece of fabric and then present it as a gift to their “champion” for good luck. Thyme is also a favorite flowering herb of the faeries. If you grow thyme in the garden and care for it well, then the faeries are thought to come and bless the plant. Also, according to flower folklore, if you lay fresh sprigs of thyme across your closed eyelids and eave the herb there for a bit – or if you tuck a sprig in your hair – you will become irresistible. ( these tactics also grant you the power to see the faeries.)

Magickally, thyme is incorporated into spells for divination and love. The element correspondence for thyme is water. The planetary association is Venus. In the language of flowers, this herb signifies bravery, courage, and strength.
